Medieval Towers
San Gimignano is nicknamed "the Manhattan of the Middle Ages" because of its numerous medieval towers. Originally there were 72, but today there are 14 remaining, each symbolizing the wealth of the noble families who built them.
Piazza della Cisterna
This triangular square is the heart of the city, surrounded by historic palaces and medieval buildings. Its name comes from the well (cisterna) located there, once a source of drinking water for the inhabitants.
Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Assunta
Also known as Duomo di San Gimignano, this Romanesque church is famous for its interior frescoes depicting biblical scenes, created by renowned artists.
Palazzo Comunale
This palace houses the town hall of San Gimignano as well as the Pinacoteca, where works of art dating from the 13th to 15th centuries are exhibited. From the top of Torre Grossa, the tallest tower in the city, you can admire stunning panoramic views.
